Praying at the Altar of Endless War
How does a war profiteer make money? Why, That's simple. He makes sure there is a war and that his company is a major supplier of the ingredients of war. And, thanks to the all-volunteer army, there are new ingredients to war. First, there are the old ingredients such as: guns and bullets; bombs and bombers; uniforms and medals; body bags and caskets for flag-draped coffins. Next there are the new ingredients like: contractors and their equipment including the people who feed our troops; the people who interrogate our prisoners; an the people who steal the oil.
There is so much money to be made so many different ways in these new wars that it can make a profiteer's head swim with glee. Our soldiers used to feed other soldiers. These were privates and corporals and other non-commissioned officers that were paid at the bottom of the pay scale. Today the people behind the hot-plates are earning a minimum salary of $60,000 per year! Some of our grunts on the ground earn one-fifth of that amount.
Here is the wording in an ad from http://www.oilcareer.org/iraq.htm:

If that were not enough, the last part that reads: "halliburton in iraq job, haliburton iraq job, halliburton iraq job, driving halliburton in iraq job truck," is printed in white on a white background. The only way you know it's there is if you highlight it.
It read like this: "halliburton
in iraq job, haliburton iraq job, halliburton iraq job, driving halliburton in
iraq job truck," You'll need to highlight everything between
"this" and "You'll" in order to see it. (Those of you receiving this in plain
text will have to go to the website.)
Like who else but Halliburton could this ad be for?
And what makes all of this worse is that the Vice President of the United States, Dick "Go <F---> Yourself" Cheney still has stock options in Halliburton. What makes you seethe even more is the knowledge that an ex-president, and the father of our current president, George H.W. Bush is making money off of all this as a board member of the Carlisle Group, a major war profiteer, along with his partners, the bin-Laden Family.
So, how does a war profiteer make sure the profits keep on coming? They take control of the greatest army on the planet by getting a figurehead oaf elected president. Then they make sure that there is a never-ending war that will have them provide ex-soldiers as high-paid consultants and allow them to rape the Iraqi land of its most valuable resource: Oil.
They will keep the American people in line by telling them a litany of lies and giving them other things to distract them, such as:
-"Fixing" Social Security when there is no "fix" needed
-Telling US all that we need a "flag-burning" amendment as a top priority
-Holding a "special vote" in the US Senate to make a law for one person, Terri Schiavo
-"Fixing" Medicare by allowing drug companies to set a non-negotiable price on their drugs, one-third of which is sold to the elderly, most of who are on a "fixed income"
-Creating a division so great between Americans that many on the "Right" will no longer speak to their relatives on the "Left"
-Allowing Polluters to "purchase" the right to pollute even more
-Making prayer in school more important than providing breakfast for poor students
These aren't the priorities of the Bush administration, they are the Diversions of the Bush administration.
Where is the talk about health care for our 45 million uninsured? Where is the outrage of President "G"lobal "W"arming Bush's right-hand man, Karl "The Traitor" Rove at his releasing the name of one of our undercover operatives as a form of "revenge" at her husband, a man who had the temerity to speak out when he saw an out-and-out lie?
Why aren't the Religious Right screaming about ethnic cleansing in Darfur? Surely the deaths of millions is more important that the a flag-burning amendment, isn't it?
It is time to stop "Praying at The Alter of Endless War" and start paying homage to our fellow man (and women, of course).
These guys (and gals) make me sick.

From an email report on Hurricane Katrina. This is what National Guardsmen should be doing. If they are gone--who else?
National Guardsmen brought in people from outlying areas to the Superdome in the backs of big 2 1/2-ton Army trucks. Louisiana's wildlife enforcement department also brought people in on the backs of their pickups. Some were wet, some were in wheelchairs, some were holding babies and nothing else.

Cindy Sheehan's Press Conference, August 29, 2005
Cindy opened today's press conference by expressing her concern for the people affected by Hurricane Katrina. Cindy said that the people of Louisiana are in her prayers. Iraqi Veterans Against the War then called for veterans around the country to help with the disaster relief in the affected areas. It was announced that supplies donated to Camp Casey will be delivered to New Orleans when the camp is broken down on Wednesday.
Kelly Doherty, a veteran of the Iraq war, raised the issue of the National Guard being stretched thin at home. She said that with troops and equipment deployed in Iraq, the Guard will not be able to provide the resources they usually bring to disaster relief efforts.
Darn right, the National Guard was not meant to be used for overseas deployment. Many of the people in the guard are on their third rotation. Their families have been lost homes through bankruptcy while the Republicans refused to help them. I have not forgotten that Republicans voted down an amendment to the Bankruptcy Bill to protect the homes of active service soldiers. I have not forgotten that Frist (R-TN) refused to debate a bill that would restore critical VA funding. Last, I have not forgotten that Bush promised this war would be paid for by Iraqi oil as he bankrupted our nation.
I think we should start bringing home the National Guard units now. Indeed, support our troops by bringing them home now.

The Bolton We All Expected
Recess-appointed U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. John Bolton is doing exactly what his critics expected of him. He is sticking it to the world. . .hard and nasty.
I received this morning a leaked copy of U.S. comments on the draft document for the Millennium Summit in September. I have been informed that these are John Bolton's personal draft modification suggestions that appear on the document.
Here is the document, adobe format, but it is a very large file. (Dial-up readers be careful.) View PDF Here or go to http://www.nationalview.org/BoltonUScomments.pdf
These suggested revisions are leaps and bounds more offensive, regressive, short-sighted, and dismissive of others than America's "bad guy" role in the 2002 World Summit on Sustainable Development.
In short, the document does the following:
~ knocks out entirely the Millennium Development Goals ~ continues to undermine collective efforts against climate change
~ knocks out targets and timetables for all goals and objective
~ guts any efforts toward further disarmament objectives and focuses exclusively on non-proliferation, while both had always been important objectives in the past
~ strikes the section that states that countries will use force only as last resort
~ and oddly, strikes out the need to establish a legal definition of terrorism, which the Bush administration has previously stated is a requirement before proceeding towards a U.N. Convention on Terrorism.
The John Bolton we came to know (and not love) is back.

It's the Oil, Stupid
Bush tells America that the Iraq war is over Democracy. Iraqi women in the new constitution have less rights than under Saddam Hussein and large autonomous areas have been provided for the Kurds. No more Americans should die fighting to protect this Iraqi constitution. The time has come to take Bush's last excuse away - he will then be left with the truth! This war was over controlling the Middle East's oil, case closed.
What Noble Cause Did Casey Sheehan Die For?
"Islam is the official religion of the state and is a basic source of legislation. No law can be passed that contradicts the undisputed rules of Islam."
- Iraqi Constitution supported by Iran-backed Shiites and the Bush Administration (but opposed by Sunni leaders)
"Fortunately, after years of effort and expectations in Iraq, an Islamic state has come to power and the constitution has been established on the basis of Islamic precepts. We must congratulate the Iraqi people and authorities for this victory."
- Ayatollah Ahmad Jannati, head of Iran's powerful ultra-conservative Guardian Council
"This is the future of the new Iraqi government - it will be in the hands of the clerics. I wanted Iraqi women to be free, to be able to talk freely and to able to move around. I am not going to stay here."
- Dr. Raja Kuzai, an obstetrician and secular Shiite member of the Assembly who met President Bush in the White House in November 2003.
