GITMO, A New Abuse

First you complain the detainees are held in a gulag...then when they plan to spend millions to build them air conditioned facilities with exercise complain about that too. I suppose the only thing that would please you is if they were all released so they could hijack planes and have another 9-11?
-The Doctor

You "super" patriots just don't get it, do you?! You are so blinded by your FALSE notion of patriotism that you can't recognize AGITPROP when you see it or read things in CONTEXT!!! Oh, and by the way, I have NEVER mentioned the word "gulag" in my commentaries on US abuses. However, I did live in that part of the world for ten years (and another ten in other parts of the world as well) and am keenly familiar with STATE terrorist tactics, including ones of the sort the US is employing at present.

As for the brand new facility that they are building replete with air-conditioning, exercise rooms, medical and dental facilities, although those features may appear to be an enormous improvement over present conditions at Gitmo and make the place sound like a future resort for detainees, I can assure you that they will be purely cosmetic. Moreover, ALL of the new add-on features can be used to advantage in interrogation procedures of the sort being utilized at present. Have you ever been locked in a room in which you have been stripped naked and the AC has been turned up to full blast. I seriously doubt it. And that is just for starters! As someone who is well acquainted with what goes on behind the scene in the international arena, I can describe even more graphic and gruesome scenarios that could take place in the new Gitmo Terrorist Resort.

As for the general tone of your message insinuating that those of us who oppose Gitmo feel that the very few REAL terrorists at Gitmo (most of the detainees at Gitmo have NO links at all to terrorism and are victims of circumstances...and this has been confirmed by US officials) should be released, that is a crock of bull and you know it!!! What you do NOT seem to know, however, is that Gitmo constitutes not only a violation of international law but of our own civil rights legislation!!! Anyone who is detained as a terrorist by our government should -- under BOTH international AND US law -- be CHARGED, given the right to legal counsel, and have the right to a FAIR trial in OUR courts. THAT IS THE BOTTOM LINE!!! No ifs, ands, or buts about it!!!

Those criminals in the White House should ALSO be charged and tried for WAR CRIMES regarding the war in Iraq and the treatment of detainees, and for HIGH CRIMES AND MISDEMEANORS for their usurpation of power and crimes against the American people. In short, not only is this administration corrupt but it has totally disregarded international law and has trampled on the constitutional rights of the people it is SUPPOSED to serve!!!

''Today's hearing is about more than contempt, even more than greed. It is simply and sadly a tale of betrayal,''
-Senator John McCain (R-AZ)

Jack Abramoff and Michael Scanlon used a scheme called "gimme five" to rip off an Indian Tribe and steal millions of dollars with promises of influencing US Congressmen on the tribe's behalf. Guess who the number one Congressional recipient was...C'mon,,,, guess.

The Mississippi Choctaws, or as I like to call them, the Hekaweis (See Chief Wild Eagle and Crazy Cat), were bilked of some $15 million by Mr. Scanlon with about $5 million being siphoned off to his friend, and partner in crime, Jack Abramoff.

''I'm just surprised I am not under 'dead, disgraced or in jail,'''
-Abramoff, joked in an email

Maybe the Senate could "surprise" you Jack.

''I think you should call her and tell her that we have turned the corner but you are pouring it on to make sure we win. Tell her as of now you are finally willing to say that we will win this, but laughingly say 'I don't know how I am going to get back all the money I had to dump into this. I hope the Golden Moon (casino) turns out to be real golden!' 'That will set her up for a discussion about payments.''
-Abramoff to Scanlon in an e-mail

I guess these guys never empty out their Deleted Items Box.

It appears that Corporal Agarn and Sergeant O'Rourke are at it again.

"And so now is the time to come together, both Republicans and Democrats - forget all that party business and come together and solve this problem permanently, forever,"
-"G"lobal "W"arming Bush

I have a question for you, Mr. President. how come, in this time of "coming together, both Republicans and Democrats", you had a dinner to discuss the country's future policies and you only invited the Republican Senators?

-Noah Greenberg

"I cannot travel our country looking at young workers who are paying payroll taxes into a system that I know is going broke,"
-"G"lobal "W"arming Bush regarding his Social Security privatization scheme

Does this mean that you're NOT going to continue your
Social-Security-Reform-then-Destroy-Tour, President Bush? That'll save the American Taxpayer over $30,000 PER DAY!

Start paying the money back to the Social Security Trust Fund that you stole and gave to your fat-cat friends in the form of a gigantic tax give-away. Get the National Debt back to a manageable state. Get an exit strategy in Iraq and START DOING THE JOB THE AMERICAN PEOPLE NEED YOU TO DO!

Frist Gets Turned Around

"At this juncture, we have to go back to the president and see what the decision he's going to make is,"
- Senator/ Doctor/ Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist, before meeting with "G"lobal "W"arming Bush, June 21, 2005

“The president made it very clear that he expects an up or down vote."
-Frist to reporters, June 21, 2005

Wow. That's a World Record in hypocrisy, even for Dr. Frist. The truth of the matter is that Bolton is a bully. He used his position in the State Department to gain information on people HE considered a threat, against intelligence advice. Bolton "kicks butt down while kissing it up." He's just another rich kid turned out-of-touch bureaucrat looking for a plum position and a few extra bucks.

The Democrats are right to filibuster the John Bolton nomination until they get the documents asked for by the Republican Chairman Richard Lugar (IN) and ranking member Joe Biden (D-DE).

Bill Frist's job is to do what's best for the People of America, not to do what he is told by Karl Rove, George Bush or Dick Cheney. His first response was the right response.... MOVE ON. If Senator Frist is intent to do whatever the president tells him to do, then he should go back to diagnosing patients via satellite.

A Real Reuters Headline

"Iraq is now a terrorist training ground, CIA says"

“I really do believe that we will be greeted as liberators (in Iraq).”

-Dick Cheney on Meet the Press, March 16, 2003

"It's like they're just making it up as they go along (referring to Bush administration)."

-Republican Senator Chuck Hagel, current issue of U.S. News & World Report

-Casey Sweet

“There are those who believe that the best idea is to give everyone one big refund on their government --divvy it up by individual portions, in the form of tax breaks, hand it out, and encourage everyone to use their share to go buy their own health care, their own retirement plan, their own child care, their own education, and so on.

"In Washington, they call this the '
ownership society.' But in our past there has been another term for it: Social Darwinism -- every man or woman for him or herself. It’s a tempting idea, because it doesn’t require much thought or ingenuity … .

"But there is a problem: It won’t work. It ignores our history. It ignores the fact that it’s been government search and investment that made the railways possible and the Internet possible. It’s been the creation of a massive middle class, through decent wages and benefits and public schools that allowed us all to prosper. Our economic dependence depended on individual initiative. It depended on a belief in the free market; but it has also depended on our sense of mutual regard for each other, the idea that everybody has a stake in the country, that we’re all in it together and everybody’s got a shot at opportunity.”
-Senator Barrack Obama (D-IL)

Beware of the "ownership society". This is not a new idea for the 21st century. Indeed, it's a cruel reactionary early 20th century philosophy camouflaged by a "fresh" sounding name. The results of Social Darwinism were child labor, sweatshops and the deprivations of the Great Depression. No sane person should want to revisit that era.
