Another White House Leak
Another Bushco "scare them all to hell" move is in the headlines again, and this time there can be no doubt that the Bushies were trying, yet again, to play the fear card in their efforts to keep the American people in line. The Washington Post Headline reads like this:
"Leak Severed a Link to Al-Qaeda's Secrets"
"Firm Says Administration's Handling of Video Ruined Its Spying Efforts"
It turns out that there are some private companies doing good works under cover, supplying us with vital intelligence and other information in our war on terror. And it appears that SITE Intelligence Group is one of those no-name companies who is more concerned with keeping us safe than keeping the Bush agenda of more war in order. Compare then to the likes of Blackwater and Halliburton, just for the fun of it.
SITE's job is to monitor Islamic terrorist groups and see if there's anything going on that our leaders need to know about. According to the Washington Post, "around 10 a.m. on Sept. 7, (SITE) notified the Bush administration of (a) secret acquisition." That acquisition was a video tape of Osama bin-Laden, and it was given to two senior Bush administration officials (and ONLY two senior Bush administration officials) with the caveat that it couldn't be released to the public until bin-Laden and al-Qaeda made it available. You see, SITE got the video through channels and if it were released prior to al-Qaeda's releasing it, the terrorist organization might have figured out (and probably have by now) who and how they got it, and closed that channel one way or another (the "another" might have been the torture and killing of an undercover operative, but we may never know).
In much the same way that Dick Cheney and his band of "evil henchmen" released the name of Valerie Plame, thus undermining her Brass Plate undercover operation and putting in jeopardy the lives of her informants, unwitting or willing, the Bushies have decided to do it again. and this time it's obviously just for the fear factor.
Due to their fear lust, someone in the Bush administration released the video. What should have happened is that the Bushies should have given the video to the Intelligence Community - THEIR Intelligence Community - to see if any good could have come from seeing the tape before our enemies knew they had it. Instead, they chose to share it with all of us as a September 11th surprise in an attempt to keep us very, very afraid.
Within 20 minutes of SITE sharing their finding with the Bushies, the video was downloaded more than a dozen times so the likes of Fox News and others could "share the fear" with us as well.
"Techniques that took years to develop are now ineffective and worthless,"
-Rita Katz, SITE's founder (an Iraqi-born Israeli citizen whose father was executed by Saddam Hussein, according to the Washington Post)
The Bushies said that the release of the early and ill-advised video didn't make a difference, but they didn't deny that it was they who released it. After all, that would mean that they're wrong and, as we all know, they are never wrong... right?
So as we watch the President's cronies piss on the US Constitution and burn the flag (both figuratively, of course), while wearing their "Freedom Flag" pins, we all know the truth beyond a shadow of a doubt. In the end, it's just the Bush way of using whatever means they have at their disposal to keep the status quo. And the status quo is killing us.
In response to
Blackwater, their immunity from - well - everything, and the comparison between
their recent scandal and the Abu- Ghraib scandal, Canizar writes:
Excellent analysis by Noah Greenberg on the cost of the Blackwater situation to the Iraqi people and to us, and our soldiers.
In Abu-Ghraib military contractors told our soldiers what to do. When punishment time came, our soldiers got it all. Contractors got nothing.
Greenberg correctly points out that Bush don't care that our soldiers reputation gets soiled by Blackwater, as long as his buddies are making money, everything is cool!
In response to Blackwater's Shopping Mall, Victoria Brownworth responds:
The stuff you can buy at Blackwater was pretty scary, in my humble opinion. Thanks for letting us know about this travesty.
