GOP Aides Need Aid
(or "We Don't Need No Stinkin' Scruples")
Make no mistakes about it - They're all the same. And now it's former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney's turn. An aide to Romney has resigned due to allegations that he used a fake police badge and handed out more such badges to campaign staff and workers.
I guess hiring the REAL police was too expensive. Maybe Romney thinks he's still Governor and has to have a pretend police force at his command.
Just take a look at the recent GOP presidential candidates and their pratfalls of late. Rudy Giuliani's "friend" from South Carolina, Thomas Ravenel had to leave "America's Mayor" because of his indictment on cocaine charges. Ravenel, the first southern Republican leader to jump on Rudy's bandwagon has been forced to be the first to jump off because of federal drug-related charges.
Ravenel is - correction - was - Rudy's South Carolina campaign chairman and state treasurer up until his resignation. So, along with the likes of his disgraced former New York City Police Commissioner Bernard Kerick, who had to "drop out" of being considered for the Homeland Security top spot a couple of years ago (after Giuliani's recommendation) and the "Friends of Rudy" list is not necessarily the place to be.
One looks at Rudy's Conservative credentials and all one sees is an abusive leader who forced former NYC police commissioner, William Bratton, who brought with him many of the tools and ideas to lower the Big apple's crime rate (which Rudy claimed as his own) because Bratton was getting too much media face time. Additionally, Giuliani is now being blamed by many of New York's Bravest, the Fire Department, for not upgrading the radios which might have saved the lives of half of the firefighters who lost their lives on 911. Let's also not forget that on September 10, 2001, Mayor Giuliani's approval rating rivaled that of President Bush's today.
And for his morality credentials, which he's going to need in order to convince the Religious Right (a block which voted for Bush at a 78 percent clip in 2004) to vote for him, Rudy gets to brag about his three wives, estranged children and an affair which forced him out of a Senate bid against none other than Hillary Clinton.
By the way, when Rudy 2008 Political Director, Mark Campbell, was initially asked about the Ravenel affair, his answer was the famous Sergeant Schultz alibi: "I hear nothing. I see nothing."
"Our campaign has no information about the accusations pending against Mr. Ravenel. Mr. Ravenel has stepped down from his volunteer responsibilities with the campaign,"
Perhaps someone ought to pick a up a newspaper or make a phone call, Mr. Campbell. You might learn something.
Next is the mass resignation of the John McCain for President campaign. His two top advisors left The Maverick high and dry after an anemic quarter which raised just $11 million was ridiculed by lefties and righties alike. This, of course, followed the firing of many of the campaign staff. McCain has a mere two million dollars remaining.
And now we're treated to the Romney's acting like the Bushies. Taking a page our of the Karl Rove handbook, Jay Garrity, the campaign's director of operations and a Rove wannabe, decided to promote his staff from workers to policemen and women. I can't help but think of the famous line from Treasure of the Sierra Madres: "Badges? We don't have to show you our badges. We don't need no stinkin' badges."
Scruples? We don't have to have scruples. We don't need no stinkin' scruples.
In response to, "Is anyone else tired of the Bushies "let them eat cake" attitude as I am?" Robert Scardapane writes:
Why does the GOP hate children?
For that matter:
Why does the GOP hate the troops?
Why does the GOP hate American workers?
Come to think of it:
Why does the GOP hate America?
